HYDROPOWER GENERATION FOR THE DEVELOPMENT AND PROSPERITY OF AFRICA

It gives me great pleasure to invite you to attend the first Hydropower Africa conference, hosted by ESI Africa, from the 4th – 6th March 2008 at the Protea Hotel Balalaika in Sandton, Johannesburg.

If 20 000MW could be implemented in the next 10 years, the benefits in terms of growth, employment and poverty alleviation would be huge. Hydropower Africa 2008 provides a focus on implementation of projects bringing utility decision-makers, government, financiers, investors, manufacturers, engineers and environmentalists under one roof to ensure good selection and presentation of projects, examination of risks between private and public parties and adequate financing for this kind of investment.

Pre-conference workshop: Environmental impacts of hydropower projects, 4 March 2008
This comprehensive workshop, led by Prof Piet de Villiers, will provide a holistic overview of the environmental and social issues surrounding the implementation of hydro projects, with special reference to the sociological impacts.

From the use of goals and objectives in the development and managing process to the phases of development of a dam, spanning site identification through to dam operation, this is the only event where all aspects of the environmental issues in the implementation of hydropower projects across Africa are covered. Meet with the biggest industry names to share the knowledge you need to stay ahead.

I look forward to welcoming you in Johannesburg in March!
