Prgramme highlights included an esteemed opening session moderated by Ambassador Juma Mwapachu, Secretary General of the East African Community and with the participation of The Honourable William Ngeleja, Minister of Energy, Tanzania, The Honourable Adam Malima, Deputy Minister for Energy, Tanzania, The Honourable Simon D’Ujanga, Minister of State for Energy, Uganda, and Sindiso Ngwenya, Secretary General of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA). These distinguished contributors discussed the parameters of creating an enabling environment for investment throughout the East African region.
A mining sector leaders’ round table pre-conference seminar was presided over by high-level stakeholders including Justice Mark Bomani. Additional focus was applied to the importance of regional corridors, transport infrastructure and trade agreements, with dedicated sessions further highlighted by the participation of The Honourable Minister Shukuru Kawambwa, Minister of Infrastructure Development, Tanzania. Dedicated sessions also featured telecommunications and ICT and measures being taken to increase connectivity as well as showcasing country-specific investment opportunities with speakers representing Kenya, Rwanda, and Tanzania.
Government representatives from around the world had the opportunity to engage with each other and share ideas. Country representatives held side meetings with potential investors and delegates experienced the region under the tutelage of elite East African decision makers and visionaries. This was a one-stop-shop paving the way forward for public private partnerships and for the region.

Will regional integration and infrastructure development make East Africa a more enabling investment and business hub?
According to a recent African Union think-tank, the answer is a resounding ‘yes’. The role of regional integration in reducing exorbitant infrastructure costs in Africa provides an achievable way forward for tackling Africa's mounting infrastructure backlog. Africa's infrastructure needs require more than money. Among the additional areas that require attention are: political commitment, sound policies and wise management. The funding gap could also be reduced by as much as half through the proper maintenance of the current infrastructure.
