Tata Power Load Despatch Center

Tata Power has been pioneers in Load Despatch techniques in India. The first Load Despatch Centre (LDC) was established in 1950 even before the formation of State Electricity Boards after independence. The coordination of the entire operation of the Tata power System i.e generation, transmission & distribution in Mumbai is carried out by the LDC. The centre is responsible for ensuring reliable, safe & secure supply of electricity to Mumbai., Tata power had commissioned computerized Load Frequency Control for Economic Despatch way back in 1970 - first such scheme commissioned in India. The scheme consisted of direct digital control system comprising of an on-line digital process control computer along with associated telemetering and I/O equipment. These facilities have been augmented from time to time and presently LDC is equipped with modern communication facilities, SCADA system for real-time data acquisition, energy management system and Dispatcher training simulator. Real time load data, connected to under frequency relays is available for deciding quantum of load relief required for ensuring successful islanding of Tata Power system with rest of grid in case of major disturbance leading to black out. This enables controlling high frequency excursions in post islanded system. SMS messaging for system snapshot & abnormal conditions available for preselected mobile numbers In addition online tie point metering and consumer interface metering system is available for scheduling and analysis for optimum resource utilization.

Meter testing workshop

The morning workshop is hosted by Zera and features presentations on meter testing from Indian utilities, testing institutes as well as international speakers. Topics include the testing of meter compliance for protocol standards, utility experiences with meter testing as well as a pilot project from Italy’s utility ‘Enel’ regarding meter testing.

AMR and communication technologies workshop

In the afternoon, an AMR workshop will be conducted by Alexander Merkulov, Managing Director of the Russian utility ‘petroelectrobyt’. The main topics that will be discussed include: Mesh technology, climate specific issues, residential AMR as well as a real-time demonstration of Russian meters in St. Petersburg.
