Mine-Tech International is THE key event showcasing the future of mining, new trends and innovations, and the latest technologies available to the mining sector.  The conference will focus on issues relating to the mechanisation and development of the mining industry internationally.  With specially designed tracks on Mining Technology and Mining Processes, covering all areas of mining, the conference will be dedicated to technology and automation, concentrating on increasing profitability, production, workforce skills, and safety on the mines and within the mining industry.  This event will assist stakeholders in identifying implementation strategies, opportunities and technology choices, and demonstrate the appropriate blend of business processes and technologies that the mining industry should employ in order to expand business. 

Target audience

The conference and expo is aimed at all levels of the mining industry, covering the entire spectrum of the sector: from chief executives and board members, senior managers, on-site mine managers and operators, financiers, investors and government to suppliers, unions and regulatory authorities.

General information:

Presenting a paper:  Presenters are asked to submit an extended abstract (300 - 400 words) by Friday, 31 July 2009 via e-mail. The abstracts will then be evaluated by a Reviewing Committee and presenters will be informed of their acceptance on or before Monday, 31 August 2009. The Committee will favour papers that present ground-breaking, innovative content.

Note that sponsoring companies will automatically be considered for a speaking slot, subject to the  Review Committee’s approval of the presentation content.

If your abstract is accepted, you will be asked to submit your presentation slides according to a format that will be sent to you.  Accepted abstracts, papers and presentations will be published in the proceedings.

Presentations can take two standard formats:

Regular presentation: Spaced 30 minutes apart on the schedule, with approximately 25 minutes spent on the presentation and 5 minutes for questions. Most presentations will be in this format.

Panel discussion: These last for one hour, with approximately 40 minutes spent on introducing the panellists and presentation of their views, and 20 minutes of questions and discussion. Panellists should be experts in the specialised field to be discussed, which should be relevant to conference attendees. If you would like to organise and lead a panel discussion, then please submit an abstract containing the agenda, and listing your panellists as co-authors.

Paper topics: The following is a list of suggested topics for your papers. This is just to get you thinking. You are welcome to suggest  a topic that has not been listed if you feel it is relevant to the state of the mining industry.

  • Accident prevention strategies – expectations and lessons learned
  • Evaluating the effects of water flow through block cave materials to assess the risk and consequence of flooding
  • Exploratory drilling and survey techniques
  • Using a non-explosive rock breaking system for continuous mining in underground mines
  • Large diameter vertical raise drilling and shaft boring techniques as an alternative to conventional vertical shaft sinking techniques
  • Deposit evaluation & risk analysis

  • Technology development: innovation in mining methods, equipment selection
  • Project planning, incorporating:  feasibility reports, technology for infrastructure management, life cycle assessment and closure planning
  • Geo-mechanics, mine construction and tunnelling, including:  rock mechanics, tunnel construction and safety, slope stability issues, strata control
  • Digital integrated seismic monitoring
  • Implementing a seismic monitoring plan
  • Rock fracture in a “low stress” environment
  • Information technology, including: corporate governance and solutions, resource planning and efficiency, computer aided design, operations and control, scheduling, GPS
  • Access control and identification security requirements
  • MSI Fingerprint technolgy -  improving access control and identification security requirement on mines
  • Extending the mantle of safety: IP-centric satellite communications in managing security risk
  • Mine monitoring and control, automation and mechanisation, including: robotics and remote control, monitoring of face and transport equipment, electrical equipment, power
  • Measurement and control technologies for the minerals processing industry
  • Deeper and down: advances in mine hoist technology
  • Mineral processing, including: laboratory systems, sorting, crushing systems and clean coal technology
  • Coal technology for the future - reducing the environmental footprint
  • Cleaner methods of recovering gold
  • Optical sorting beneficiation and recovery of minerals and metals – new trends
  • Downstream processing and beneficiations technologies
  • Rehabilitation: environmental and mine rehabilitation for sustainability and profit

Submission guidelines

When making a submission, please ensure that:

  • Abstracts are written in English
  • Abstracts do not exceed one A4-size page
  • Each abstract contains full contact and designation details of the speaker
  • The abstract has not been presented before
  • The abstract and presentation is of a non-commercial nature; sales pitches will NOT be accepted

As the author you commit yourself to presenting the paper at the event, should the abstract be selected by the Reviewing Committee. Speakers are responsible for their own travel and accommodation arrangements and expenses.

Leading a workshop: Instructors are asked to submit a course outline by Friday, 31 July 2009. The outlines will be evaluated by a Reviewing Committee and instructors will be informed of their acceptance on or before Monday, 31 August 2009.

Accepted course outlines will be published as course descriptions in the programme. They should therefore be directed at those who might register for the course, rather than the reviewers.

Workshops are a half-day in length. If you feel your workshop requires a full day, it will be divided into parts I and II, each lasting half a day.
