Power Indaba was co-located with African Utility Week, which saw over
1 700 power professionals from over 50 countries come together in Durban from
22-25 February for the largest utility event on the continent.
South African Energy Minister Elizabeth Dipuo Peters delivered the welcome address during Tuesday's opening session. She was joined by her Public Enterprises colleague, Minister Barbara Hogan, and African energy ministers from Zimbabwe, Ghana, Kenya and Tanzania.

Minister of Energy welcomed delegates to Power Indaba

The opening session was dedicated to the Energy Department's vision for the next 4 years. It was opened by Honourable Minister of Energy Dipuo Peters followed by the speech of Amb (ret.) Joseph Wilson and a panel discussion about driving investment within the African utilities sector.

Ministers toured the exhibition floor and networked with some of the African Utility Week sponsors.  The tour was led by Honourable Minister Dipuo Peters.

Access breakfasts

Honourable Minister Elias Mudzuri, Minister of Power Development, Zimbabwe briefed potential investors on feasible Zimbabwe power projects during a networking breakfast. He was joined in the discussions by Ben Rafamoyo, CEO of Zesa, and Lawrence Musaba of SAPP. The breakfast was sponsored by Dewey & LeBoeuf.

Mr Kavese from the Ministry of Energy, DRC shared insight into doing business in the DRC power sector with potential investors during an exclusive networking breakfast.

Regional panel discussion

Ministers, senior officials and utilities discussed future projects during regional panel discussions for Southern Africa, East and Central Africa, West and North Africa.

Innovative funding panel discussion

Innovative funding ideas were shared, deliberated and discussed in great detail, giving new and sometimes creative perspectives on how to fund projects within the power sector.
Over 200 Ministers, Senior Ministerial officials, Utility CEO’s and investors came together at this exclusive two day forum to discuss feasible projects ready for investors, making this the largest power investment forum in Africa.
