The Power Indaba 2008 is an exclusive, two-day conference and a unique forum for ministerial delegations, high-level power executives, policy makers and international financiers to tackle investment head-on and thus encourage the development of the African power sector.
Invitation from Minister Buyelwa Sonjica, Minister of Minerals and Energy, South Africa
I wish to extend a warm welcome and invite you to attend the Africa Power Indaba aimed at fast-tracking investment in the power sector in Africa.
As you may be aware, over the past few months South Africa has been experiencing and continues to experience power outages as a result of the unprecedented growth in our economy. In order to deal with this situation, government has developed the energy response plan and through Eskom, we have also embarked on a US$180 billion programme of capital investment over the next twenty years. Government has also pledged US$ 7.5 billion towards these programmes.
Pre-conference seminar – maximising financial advantage and mitigating risk in African infrastructure projects
Two-day exclusive conference – participate in fast-tracking Africa’s power portfolio
Networking functions - meet the people that can make the difference to African energy supply
Co-located with African Utility Week - the largest utility event in Africa with over 1 000 delegates
New investment – new hope for power shortages
While the recent power shortages in South Africa have given a greater sense of urgency to Eskom’s development plans, there is possibly light at the end of the tunnel for private investors to become involved in power generation.
