An insufficient supply of technical skills can constrict private sector development and economic growth.Quality technical training is essential to enhancing economic competitiveness and contributing to social inclusion, employment opportunities, and poverty reduction. The African continent has averaged five percent economic growth over the past five years. While growth is occurring, it is being driven by a handful of economic centres and by small concentrations of skilled workers. The growth that the continent has been experiencing has increased the demand for skills, and this demand is outstripping supply of Africa’s most precious resource - its people.
For this reason Mining Review Africa and ESI Africa magazines are pleased to be hosting the Technical Skills Africa conference, taking place 8 – 10 December 2008 in Johannesburg, South Africa.
The Technical Skills Africa 2008 conference will assist stakeholders in the power, mining, ICT, and infrastructure sectors in identifying where their skills management strategies can be enhanced. The conference will provide thorough analysis of skills acquisition, development, maintenance and retention, and investigate how public-private partnerships can help to address the current shortfall in skills supply. In addition to the extremely high quality of speakers, it also provides a great networking opportunity.
Anyone seeking solutions to the technical skills deficit should make this event a priority on their calendar.
Yours sincerely
