What happened at WAPIC 2011 : |
In total, the event attracted 442 participants from 27 countries, made up of speakers, sponsors, exhibitors, delegates and visitors.
WAPIC 2011 included 442 delegates, 29 booths, 3 platinum sponsors, 6 gold sponsors, 1 silver sponsor and 7 bronze sponsors.

The 9th annual WAPIC convention: |
Access to finance and developing the investment environment is a must for the main conference and pre-conference day. This remains the major bottleneck in the development of the industry. There is a desired need to get IFC, World Bank and all the multilateral donors for this session. This continues the dialogue between the financiers, policy makers and utility/project developers to increase cash flow into the sector. Tariffs shall form one of the major topic as well and government concessions around PPAs.
We have some exciting content for 2012 with Pre-conference workshops, Large Power Users, Generation Mix Session... Co-located with WAPIC 2012, we have the Water Utilities West Africa which will bring together the key decision-makers in the power, oil & gas and water sectors, where infrastructure development & investment is crucial for their progress.
Power generation and access to gas will be discussed. David Ige, the Gas Master plan lead in Nigeria for NNPC, should present a paper as well as Mahama Kappiah from ECREEE. They would have to share the renewable energy potential and projects in the West African region. Read more...

WAPIC 2011 a huge success!
With close to 500 attendees in Abuja two weeks ago, Nigeria’s Minister of Power – Professor Bart Nnaji and the Bureau of Public Enterprise Director General Mrs Bolanle A. Onagoruwa, gave compelling presentations updating the audience on where the Nigeria power sector privatization is at the moment, what has been done, and what still needs to happen to complete the reform.
The principle objective of the reform is to promote competition and attract investment into the sector, improving the industry’s overall operational efficiency. Their aim is to reach 6MW of reliable electricity by January 2012. Read more...
